Planning Your Session
Here is an overview of the entire process and what you can expect from working with me:
- Pre-Booking: You begin by learning about my services. I am a big believer in transparency and helpfulness. That’s why I explain my services in great detail on my website. I display my prices, add-ons, deliverables, and timeframes online so you know them beforehand, and there are no surprises. I have published thousands of photos in my portfolio and blog sections so that you can get a good feel for my style. And if you still have any questions before booking, I’m only a quick message away.
- Booking: I’ve designed my scheduling process to be fast and hassle-free, ensuring your ease. You start by heading to my booking page, picking your date from my calendar, filling out a short form, and paying your $100 non-refundable deposit.
- Session Prep: After I receive your booking, I will review it and email you a detailed prep guide within 1-2 business days. I am also available to answer any questions via email or text.
- Confirming the Date of Your Session: Once your baby arrives, you will email me to let me know everything is on schedule. Finally, you will receive an invoice for the remaining balance of your session a day before your session.
- The Session: We meet at your home and have a relaxed session. While I follow a specific session plan, I will adjust based on the baby’s mood—whether they are asleep, awake, and happy, or not having it and needing a break. We will spend as much time as necessary feeding and changing the baby or waiting for them to be in the right mood. I will direct and guide your family so you never have to worry about what to do.
- After the Session: You will receive your proof gallery of about 70–100 images within five days after your session. From this gallery, you will select the 20 images included in the price of your session. After you see your proof gallery, you may decide on any upgrades. Please reply with your picks within seven days of receiving your gallery. After I receive your picks, I will deliver the final edited photos within seven days.
- Beyond the Session: I am grateful and honored that you’ve picked me to help document and celebrate the birth of your child. My mission is to help you create a collection of meaningful family photos through the years. I hope you will find my online resources and updates useful. You will also get priority access to all of my additional offerings.

When scheduling, choose your due date or the closest date to your due date, and I will pencil you in for that date, ensuring you have a spot. And because babies come on their schedule, we will pick an actual shoot date once your baby is born (typically five days to three weeks after birth). This way, you don’t have to worry if your baby comes early or late.
If your baby is already here, please select your preferred date when booking and I will get back to you shortly to confirm or give you a few other options.
You can book your newborn session at any time. In a perfect world, booking your session two to three months before your due date ensures I have availability, as I may be unable to accommodate last-minute bookings.
If your baby is already here, please select your preferred date when booking and I will get back to you shortly to confirm or give you a few other options.
The ideal time to photograph a newborn is five days to four weeks after birth. But every family is different, and I have photographed babies who were 2 months and even 3 months old.
My newborn studio is in Kirkland’s iconic Market Neighborhood at 720 Market St Ste E, Kirkland, WA 98033 (Directions).
I travel to any Seattle area home within a 25-mile radius of my studio for in-home newborn sessions. A $100–$200 travel fee will be added for locations further away.
For in-home newborn sessions, I bring a few simple props, including several blankets and baskets.
If you are interested in newborn photography with props, I invite you to take a look at my studio newborn photography options.
After completing your booking, you will receive an email with prep info and styling tips to help you look your best for the session.
But in general, I recommend more comfortable home clothes for parents and siblings (that you won’t mind in photos years later). Neutrals, whites, grays, blacks, and nudes are great for a clean look while keeping the focus on skin tones.
A simple white onesie or a romper is great for the baby.
I have photographed thousands of families, which has allowed me to develop a relaxed and enjoyable session flow. I will guide and direct you the entire time, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. I aim for natural-looking poses while catching a few candids as well.
Please do not worry about your house not being in tip-top shape. We’ll do most of the photos in front of windows, in the baby’s nursery if it’s already set up, and in your bedroom. These locations usually require very little prep.
Yes, absolutely. Grandparents can jump in for a few shots. There are no additional fees. I will typically take these photos in the family room or your backyard (if the weather permits).
When booking your session, please let me know if your extended family is joining so I can plan accordingly.
All payments are made by credit card. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required to book your session.
The remaining balance is due at the time of the session. An invoice reminder will be emailed to you a day before your session. The proof gallery is delivered after the payment is made in full.
Your newborn session includes 20 hand-edited images that you pick from a proof gallery of 80 to 100 photos. If you want to purchase additional hand-edited photos, they are available for $20 each. Information on purchasing additional images will be included with your online proof gallery.
In addition, an entire gallery upgrade is available for $200. It includes all the images in your proof gallery with a standard color edit. (See also the next question for more information about the difference between hand editing and standard editing.)
All photos will be in full print resolution with print rights, allowing you to print as many photos as you like to decorate your home and gift to family and friends.
Standard (color) editing includes an overall color adjustment to make the photos appear brighter, more colorful, and properly exposed.
Hand editing is more detailed and includes basic skin smoothing, removal of blemishes, bruises, and a few flyaways, as well as more detailed color adjustments. This type of edit is ideal for photos you intend to print and for heirlooms.
You will receive your online proof gallery within five days after your session. You will have seven days to pick your images for the detailed hand-edit. Seven days after you submit your selections, your edited photos will be delivered via an online gallery.
If it takes you longer than seven days to pick your images, I may require more than seven days to submit your final photos.
If you purchase the full gallery upgrade, you will receive the download link within 48 hours of payment.
