A maternity photoshoot is a unique way to remember your pregnancy. The perfect time for your photo session is between 28 and 32 weeks of pregnancy. Most women’s bumps are fully showing around this time, and they can still move around comfortably.
If your ideal time falls in the summer and fall months and you are considering an outdoor location, there are many good options. I have been helping women document their pregnancies in Seattle since 2009. During this time, I have shot at many locations around the area and narrowed my choices to a few of the best ones based on how they look in photos and their convenience for pregnant moms.
You can’t go wrong with any of my locations, but some may feel more natural to you than others. In addition, if you plan to display these photos on your walls, some of these locations may better complement your home interior.
You will keep and treasure these photos for the rest of your life, so investing a little bit of time to consider various outdoor locations is a time you won’t regret. In this post, I will highlight Snoqualmie Pass, which works for summer and fall maternity sessions. Let’s get started.

It takes about an hour to get here from Seattle and Bellevue. This location has a bathroom on site and is very accessible—it is a short, easy walk from a parking lot.

Sample Summer Sessions at Snoqualmie Pass
Here’s a Maternity Deluxe session from early summer. The photoshoot takes 60 minutes, which allows plenty of time for an outfit change.
When styling your outfits, I recommend opting for neutral tones work, which work best in a natural location like Snoqualmie Pass.
As you will see below, the rose dress works well because it is the opposite color of the natural environment and makes the mom stand out. The couple’s white outfits also make them stand out against the darker background and bring attention to their skin. The off-the-shoulder dress completes the look and adds a unique feel to the photos.
Here’s another couple’s maternity session at Snoqualmie Pass. Once more, the couple is wearing neutral tones, which I recommend for this location.
In Client’s Words
“We worked with Lana for maternity and, later, newborn photos and had a great experience both times! She is very organized, prompt and detailed in all of her communication and turned the photos/edits around very quickly. For the maternity shoot, Lana had a well-researched library of location options and arrived early the day of the shoot to pinpoint exact locations based on lighting and the conditions of the day, which made things really seamless for transitions when we arrived... We are really glad to have worked with her to capture some special family moments!” –Belinda

The wildflowers are usually gone by fall, but the Snoqualmie Pass still offers plenty of dramatic looks. This couple also included traditional cultural clothing in several shots for a special meaning:
